In practice, an improperly fitted foam plug delivers far less protection than its rating suggests. Custom plugs maintain a reliable seal because they’re shaped to your exact ear canal. They’re also far more comfortable for extended wear.
That’s exactly what they’re designed to prevent. Musician earplugs use flat-response acoustic filters to reduce volume evenly across the frequency range, rather than cutting the high frequencies the way foam plugs do. The result is a quieter version of the sound, not a muffled one. You can choose 10dB, 15dB, or 25dB attenuation, and the filters are interchangeable so one set covers different situations.
Pricing varies depending on the type of earplug (musician, swim, industrial, motorsport, sleep). We’ll give you a clear quote during your consultation before anything is ordered. Payment is due on the day impressions are taken, covering everything: consultation, fabrication, and your fitting appointment.
A hearing test isn’t required to get custom earplugs, but we often recommend one if you haven’t had a recent assessment and are regularly exposed to loud noise. It establishes a baseline so we can track any changes over time.
With proper care, most custom earplugs last between 3 and 5 years. For musician earplugs, the filters themselves may need replacing before the earplug body does if they get clogged with earwax or debris. Replacement filters can be ordered separately.
