Ear Wax Removal With a Perforated Eardrum or Grommets: Is It Safe?

It depends on your specific ear condition. Here’s what you need to know before booking.

When microsuction is safe

Microsuction is safe if you have grommets (ventilation tubes), because the procedure uses no water. It’s also suitable if you have a history of minor ear issues or infections that have since resolved.

When we can’t help directly

We don’t perform ear wax removal if you have a current or chronic perforated eardrum, a history of mastoidectomy (previous ear surgery), or certain ear canal abnormalities. These conditions require specialised medical management, and wax removal should be performed under ENT specialist supervision.

What to do when you book

Please let our reception team know about any ear conditions when you call. We’ll confirm whether we can safely see you, or whether you need an ENT referral. This keeps you safe and saves you an unnecessary trip to the clinic.

If we can’t help directly, we’ll point you to the right specialist.
